Ecological Engineering recently completed construction oversight for Metro’s Johnson and Brigman Creeks Stream Stabilization project near Gresham, Oregon. The project was designed and provided construction oversight by David Gorman under Ecological Engineering’s On-Call Water Resource Services contract with Metro. Project features included the removal of three dams and one bridge from Brigman Creek to restore fish passage, elimination of a Johnson Creek meander cutoff to restore natural channel morphology, placement of large wood in both creeks to enhance floodplain connection and provide aquatic habitat diversity, excavation of an off-channel alcove to serve as high flow refugia and rearing habitat for native fish, excavation of an amphibian breeding pool in the floodplain, and the installation of streambank stabilization measures. Mr. Gorman worked closely with the equipment operator and provided real time on-the-fly design modifications during construction to accommodate unanticipated site conditions and non-uniform natural materials. Construction work on Brigman Creek was completed in 2017, and construction work on Johnson Creek was completed in 2019.
